Matt Hunter

Professional Mountain Biker

Matt Hunter rides bicycles for one simple reason: because it brings him joy. Born and raised in the active outdoorsy community of Kamloops, BC, Matt started riding the singletrack outside his backdoor by age 13. Fast-forward a couple years, and Matt and his buddies were building big dirt kickers wherever they could get away with it. Matt has always followed his heart towards the bliss that mountain biking instills in him. He forewent the traditional route of racing and competition after winning the Ultimate Freeride Challenge in 2003, an online video contest that put Matt on the freeride map. From that win, he picked up a couple sponsors and put his full effort into expressing the beauty and creativity of his riding by focusing on photo and video segments. Whether they consist of bushplane-accessed approaches or overnight self-supported bike trips with his young son, Matt’s joy fueled exploits are expanding the definition of what it means to be a professional freeride mountain biker.
